The Trick to Stop Skulling and Chunking Chip Shots
by Dave NastalskiHey there Golfers!
Dave Nastalski here, PGA Director of Instruction at Dogwood Country Club in Raleigh, N.C. I've got a quick tip to help shallow out your angle of attack with a wedge and get rid of those chunks and skulls. It's sure to help your short game, which will help those scores plummet! You can even work on this as an indoor golf drill during the quarantine. Video and text below!
Step 1:
Grab your wedge. Move the ball position forward of center (use foam if practicing indoors!)
Step 2:
Imagine a laser beam coming out of the grip end of the club, pointing right at your belly button (or even better yet, tape a laser beam to your club!)
Step 3:
As you swing back, stay really really wide! Do your best to keep the laser beam pointed at your belly button (it won't actually, but create the FEELING). Swing on down, brush the turf lightly and stand up tall facing the target. Point the laser beam right at your belly button at the finish. Keep your arms long, but soft. No tension!
Give it a go! Let me know how you do.
